How best to remove the ctfmon.exe virus from XP?

Hello people, I have asked this question here as I trust dynadot with what is a very important security matter.

It seems I have picked up a well known spyware virus known as ctfmon.exe and I am using XP.

I have closed down the process this time, but how do I delete it from the hard drive so it will never come back again?

Is there any free malware checker that I can trust today, for use under Windows XP operating system?
