How do I set up my domain to work with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) using DNS?

To set up Google Workspace with your domain, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down.
  3. Check the box next to your domain name(s) and click on the "Action" button.
  4. Choose "DNS Settings" from the "Action" list.
  5. On the DNS page, select the "Dynadot DNS" setting from the top drop-down menu.
  6. Move to the "Domain Records (optional)" section. You will be entering your initial records here.
  7. Under the "Domain Record (optional)" section, select "TXT" as the "Type" of record, and enter your unique Google verification record in the "IP Address / Destination" field.
    • Please note: you may need to verify this record with Google before proceeding with the other steps. If so, please hit "Save Settings", and return to continue once the record is verified.
  8. Enter another "TXT" record. This will be your SPF record, and will help protect your emails from being classified as spam. For this record, enter "v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all" in the "IP Address / Destination" field.
  9. Next, there are two possible configurations for your Workspace package:
    • Newer Google Workspace Customers will select "MX" from the "Record Type" drop-down, and enter the following MX record for email:
      • IP Address / Destination: "smtp.google.com", Priority: 1
    • Customers migrating older Google Workspace/G Suite DNS to our Dynadot DNS portal, whose MX entries begin in "aspmx", may enter the following, making use of the "Add Record" button for additional entry lines:
      • IP Address / Destination: "aspmx.l.google.com", Priority: 1,
      • IP Address / Destination: "alt1.aspmx.l.google.com", Priority: 5,
      • IP Address / Destination: "alt2.aspmx.l.google.com", Priority: 5,
      • IP Address / Destination: "alt3.aspmx.l.google.com", Priority: 10,
      • IP Address / Destination: "alt4.aspmx.l.google.com", Priority: 10.
  10. Move to the "Subdomain Records (optional)" section to begin entering the DKIM and DMARC records provided by Google.
    • For instructions on generating your Google Workspace DKIM record, please follow this guide from Google.
    • For instructions on determining your DMARC record, please refer to this this guide from Google.
  11. Enter your unique "DNS Host Name" as the "Subdomain" and "TXT" as the "Type", then enter your unique DKIM "TXT record value" generated with Google in the "IP Address / Destination" field.
  12. Enter "_dmarc" as the "Subdomain", the "Type" as "TXT", and your unique DMARC string in the "IP Address / Destination" field.

Depending on the instructions of Google or your Google Workspace reseller, you may have the option to add one or all of the following CNAME records in our "Subdomain Records (optional)" field:

  1. Under the "Subdomain Record (optional)" field, enter "www" as the "Subdomain" and "CNAME" as the "Type", then enter "ghs.google.com" as the "IP Address / Destination".
  2. For your second subdomain, enter "calendar" as the "Subdomain" and "CNAME" as the "Type", then enter "ghs.google.com" as the "IP Address / Destination".
  3. For the third subdomain, enter "docs" as the "Subdomain" and "CNAME" as the "Type", then enter "ghs.google.com" as the "IP Address / Destination".
  4. For the last subdomain, enter "mail" as the "Subdomain" and "CNAME" as the "Type", then enter "ghs.google.com" as the "IP Address / Destination".

Please make use of the "Add Record" button next to "Subdomain Records (optional)" whenever required, to create additional lines of entry.

Once all records have been added, click on the "Save Settings" button to save your changes.
